About Home on Broadway

In the Tony Award®-nominated play The New York Times calls “an uplifting folk ballad about the pure in heart,” Cephus Miles has the whole world in his callused hands—until his sweetheart Pattie Mae goes off to college and marries another man. Originally staged by the Negro Ensemble Company in 1979, and featured in the first year of Roundabout’s Refocus Project, Samm-Art Williams’ Home is a muscular and melodic coming-of-age story that gives voice to the unbreakable spirit of all Americans who have been searching for a place to belong. Kenny Leon (A Soldier’s Play) directs.

See it if You are interested in a story about overcoming obstacles. It was very confusing and hard to follow. The acting was fine.

Don’t see it if You want a clear and structured story.

Absorbing, Ambitious, Clever, Delightful, Exquisite

See it if I love the way the acting was portrayed and how he dealt with his obstacle's. Though depressing at times it was still amazing.

Don’t see it if there wasn't anything I didn't dislike, though faced with challenges he persevered.

Fast Dialogue, Great Acting, Historical, Poetic, Thought-Provoking

See it if you enjoy taking a look at a moment in history, see how a particular population have been influenced by the times. You enjoy literature.

Don’t see it if You get frustrated trying to catch every word of a rapid fire monologue or dialogue. The second half of the show is easier to understand.
